Bikeweek is Coming Your Way SOON!

In this 200th anniversary year celebration of the bicycle, National Bike Week is the perfect time to rediscover your love of cycling and all things bike. The fabulously funky Dublin Cycling Campaign (DCC) Bike Week team have been banging our heads, pots and whatever else is nearby to come up with a thrilling and exciting schedule of events and we’re nearly there. Remember to keep an eye on the DCC Facebook page for updates as we will be posting all events there and also please do get in touch if you want to lend us your arms, legs, experience - actually we will take anything - both in the lead-up and organisation as well as at any of the events.
VOLUNTEERS Needed! We need you to help us out!

We kick off on Saturday 10th June exploring community gardens in the city - there will be north and south routes - and did I mention food - there will be loads of it - nibbles and tasters anyway, maybe not full meals. Details now finalised with our good friends in the Community Growers Association and soon to be posted on Biekweek website (www.bikeweek.ie) .

On Sunday 11th June fast and furious Velodrome action takes place at Custom House quay, organised by Dublin City Council, with the action moving to Smithfield the following evening.
Cycling Ireland are also hosting their great family friendly annual Bikefest in St Anne’s Park in Clontarf.

On Monday 12th June we will be hosting a special talk within the context of Bikeweek on proposals for Quietways in Dublin City - A new concept to encourage cycling and walking in the city! This will be held in our usual Central Hotel venue.

From Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th the Phoenix Park themed Bike Tours are back - do you have friends who are almost as afraid of going on a bike as opening bills but would like to explore one of the great city parks of Europe in a relaxed and safe environment - well these tours are for them. Help them discover or re-discover what they have been missing and we will have an after venue for a few sneaky ones even though it’s a school night - ssh. We won’t tell if you don’t!

On Saturday 17th June - the Bike to the Beach Picnic will follow the new segregated Clontarf cycle route to Dollymount Strand - bring your bucket and spades, beach balls, battered frisbies that you have thrown in a corner, faded kites that deserve another flutter in the sea breeze and anything else that captures the fun of “Dollyer”. Some of the braver souls may even want to swap their cycling legs for their sea legs and take a dip in the water!

On Sunday 18th June it’s the Midsummer Liffey Cycle. Dress up!…but the more flamboyant the better - we want to do the Liffey Cycle only bigger and better with more jazz and colour. It will end up in Ringsend Park for some refreshments. Bring your own picnic along!

Dublin Bikeweek then closes with the 5th annual Cargo Bike Championships in the Phoenix Park. Time to think about a new way to travel!?

Let us know if you have any other ideas that we could tie into the events above and we would be happy to take them on board.

So, as you can see there is plenty of two-wheeled action taking place. But… we have to ask for something in return. We need plenty of helping hands (and spinning legs) to ensure these events take place, and more importantly, take place safely. If you are available to help out, no matter how long or how short a time, get in touch with Padraig at odwyerdotp@gmail.com ****Volunteer NOW!**

We will soon be posting details on all events via social media, but also on the Bikeweek site at Bikeweek.ie
