Cycling Officer for Dublin City Council gets Ministerial approval

On 14th July, Alan Kelly, Minister of the Environment, in reply to a Dáil Question, has given approval for Dublin City Council to appoint a Cycling Officer -

Department of Environment, Community and Local Government

Maureen O’Sullivan (Dublin Central, Independent)

(889.) To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if he will clarify when approval was first sought earlier this year for the appointment of a cycling officer by Dublin City Council and when he will make a decision on this request; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29220/15]

Alan Kelly (Tipperary North, Labour)

My Department received a staff sanction request from Dublin City Council for a Cycling Officer, on a three-year contract, on 26 May 2015 and following consideration of the request, the post was approved on 10 July 2015.

There hasn’t been a Cycling Officer in Dublin City since 2011, when the Department of the Environment stopped funding the position. We will bring you more information when the details emerge.
