Join the VeloRution! - Come to our World Café Event

Monday, 14 November 2016 (All day)
7,30pm, Central Hotel, Exchequer Street, Dublin 2

Nearly 1,000 cyclists took to the streets of Dublin last month seeking a fairer deal for cycling! If you were one of them then our upcoming monthly public session will be of interest. Why not come along and make your voice heard!? Cycling needs a stronger voice generally, and we need to make sure we are representing YOUR VOICE when we plan for the upcoming year.

Through a process known as ‘World Café’ style, we will explore our activities and priorities for the months ahead and you can be part of it. As it happens 2017 is the 200th anniversary of the invention of the bicycle, so we really need to ‘up’ our game in ensuring that the humble bicycle hits the headlines throughout the year. But, we also need to ensure that the voice of cyclists is heard clearly in upcoming critical decisions by Dublin City Council and national government on specific projects such as Liffey Cycle Route and College Green Plaza plan, as well as pushing for a greater share of transport funding for cycling.

There will be 4 tables/groups on the night and you can get to participate in each group. Check out the World café method here. The topics at each table will be along the lines of the following:

  • Planning Events for 2017. Dublin Cycling Campaign normally participates in/organises the St. Patrick’s Day Festival, Bike Week, Electric Picnic Bicycle Space, Mobility Week events, Bike Christmas Party, as well as monthly public meetings on topical cycling related issues. Our members also like to have some FUN! Help us to make 2017 even more fun and reach out to a wider community!

  • Follow-up Cycle Protests, organising mass cycles in support of a fairer deal for cycling as well as critical and well planned cycle infrastructure. A number of major public realm changes are being proposed and will soon go to a public consultation process, including the Liffey Cycle Route and College Green Plaza. Find out what’s the thinking behind these and help us to formulate our lobbying/campaigning approach.

  • National level lobbying on cycling. At present Dublin Cycling Campaign/Cyclist.ie meet with virtually all relevant Local Authorities, Ministries and Agencies to advance our agenda. Find out who we meet, and maybe help us to be more effective in our approach!?

  • Dublin Cycling Campaign membership. Can we do more for our members? Are you satisfied with your membership? Do you have ideas on how to improve service to members? Does our membership give value for money? How are we organised? Can we grow membership numbers to help us to be more effective? All these and more questions need to be asked and hopefully answered. Help us out!

If you are thinking of getting more actively involved in the Campaign, then this is the meeting for you. Or if you are new to the Campaign or to cycling in Dublin, come along to find out more about what we are doing to make Dublin a cyclist friendly city. It’s a great opportunity to meet and share ideas with other cyclists. Why not join us on the night!?

Public meeting, all welcome.
