Help us research the experience of women who cycle in Dublin

Women on Wheels is a project run by a group of volunteers with Dublin Cycling Campaign. We’re concerned that only 3 out of 10 people who cycle in Dublin are women, and curious to find out more about women’s experience of cycling in Dublin. In August 2018, we brought together about 50 women to listen to what you are experiencing on Dublin’s streets - do you feel safe? if not, why not?

The next phase of this project involves asking a diverse group of women about their experience on two wheels in Dublin. The process will involve keeping a diary of your cycling decisions and experiences; we’re also asking you to use a bicycle bell connected to the research platform through your smartphone to register your experience of cycling as you go about the city. This will be followed by a short interview at the time which is convenient for you.

The platform called Liberty Bell, was developed in response to a Smart Cycling Challenge in Dublin, and has been adapted to meet the needs of this research project.

We want to hear from anyone who defines themselves as a woman. It doesn’t matter which part of Dublin you are from, whether you wear a helmet or a headscarf, cycle with the kids or have a mobility issue, please do consider getting involved!

You need to be available to participate between the 14th and the 28th of April. We’ll be running a workshop at a city centre location on the 14th of April with a space for the kids to play (although the kids will remain their parents responsibility). There will be a debrief session (interview) after the project’s end on the 28th of April.

The purpose of gathering the data about you below is to help us ensure that we gather as diverse experiences of women cycling as possible. We will not be retaining the data from the application form after selecting the participants.

Your participation in this project is completely voluntary and it is up to you how much information you consider comfortable to share with us at any stage of the project. We will get back to after the 9th of April to confirm your participation.
