Huge turnout for Light Up Your Bike
If you were one of the many awesome volunteers who turned out in the cold recently to hand out free lights to Dublin cyclists, we salute you!
We were really happy that so many cyclists donned Dublin Cycling Campaign hi-vis and handed out free lights, reminding cyclists to stay well-lit during winter months. Volunteers also gave out Dublin Cycling Campaign business cards to spread our message and recruit even more volunteers.
We even had the Lord Mayor at Five Lamps last night, as well as Councillor Donna Cooney helping.
So far (and we’re not done yet!) we’ve held Light Up Your Bike at…
- Tue 15 Nov 2022, 5pm - Grand Canal at 9th Lock Road, Waterside Pub, Clondalkin
- Thu 17 Nov 2022, 5pm - Rathfarnham Road bridge over the Dodder
- Tue 22 Nov 2022, 5pm - Rathmines Bridge over the Grand Canal
- Thu 24 Nov 2022, 5pm - The Five Lamps, Fairview
The lights were supplied by the Road Safety Authority.
Though we’re absolutely clear that drivers of cars and trucks bear full responsibility for seeing vulnerable road users whether lit-up or not, we do appreciate that Irish law requires front white and rear red lights on bikes (yet another road safety issue where enforcement in Ireland is ineffective!) So we’re happy to take the opportunity that Light Up Your Bike offers to meet and engage with cyclists on the street in a positive way.
If you missed out (on volunteering, or just bagging some free lights!) we’ll be at Rathmines Bridge again at 5pm next Tuesday, November 29th. Sign up here.
