Report from the Bloom bike park
Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2024 Bord Bia Bloom Bike Park a great success over the June bank holiday weekend. We facilitated 1250 people to avail of secure bike parking while they worked at or visited the event. People of all ages with all types of bike used the facility and they were all very pleased to be able to leave their bikes in a secure and convenient location right beside the red entrance. We even met some people who said that they would have cycled to Bloom if they had known that this facility was available.
Our aim with the bike park was not only to keep the bikes safe, but also to chat to people about the work Dublin Cycling Campaign does for cycling advocacy, all while helping to show that accessing big events by bike is convenient and sustainable. The large numbers we facilitated during this pilot initiative will hopefully encourage other event organisers to set up similar facilities on their sites. If anyone reading this is looking to organise an event and wants to have Bicycle Valet Parking at the event, do please contact Dublin Cycling Campaign to discuss the different options.
Thank you very much to the Bloom festival organisers for inviting us to manage cycle parking provision on the site, and to Dublin City Council and to Fingal County Council for their generous support of this initiative. And a very special thanks to all the volunteers who gave their time over the five days; we couldn’t have done it without them.
