Help to Grow Cycling in Dublin

Dublin City Council, and Smart Dublin, are proud to present the Dublin Cycle Buddy App especially for expert cyclists to trial. This App has been developed by a small Prague based company who won a support award at Velo City in Dublin in 2019. Dublin Cycling Campaign are proud to support this development. Why not give it a try and help to identify cycle friendly routes around our city and county, which can help people who are new to cycling to choose appropriate routes?

The custom-built App, which you can download and use, is designed to be the go-to App for all things cycling in Dublin. Through the participation of you and our cycling community, the App will crowd-source critical information to provide more ‘localised’ and accurate routing data, to support identification of good cycling route options. This will help Dublin City Council to create a safer and more bike-friendly environment for all. Please download the ‘Beta Testing’ version of the app at the end of this article.

You can support this initiative by:
● Helping to foster an online cycle community specific to Dublin
● Sharing your feedback and capturing your cycling routes
● Helping improve routing algorithms to suggest safer routes in the city
● Encouraging new cyclists to start cycling in the city
● Completing challenges for rewards
● Seeing first-hand all new cycling infrastructure updates in the city

Why are SMART Dublin and Dublin City Council doing this?
The Covid-19 crisis has highlighted the need to scale up cycling in the city, in particular encouraging new cyclists to get on their bikes. The full app launch will happen in August 2020, but right now we need your help, as an experienced cyclist.
How can you take part?
It’s easy, download the app below, and share it with other people who cycle. Next, log your cycling trips, and leave comments (community reports) on routes taken. Finally, participate in the challenges that pop up to win prizes. Help us engage with Dublin’s cycling community and capture valuable cycling data that will help identify what planning, infrastructure and behavioural changes are needed to improve the Dublin cycling experience.
