Fingal Cycling Campaign makes a submission on the Kellystown SHD
UPDATE: Decision by the board on Note 2 Note 2: The Board considers that the junction upgrade at Kellystown Link Road/Diswellstown Road is not pedestrian or cycle friendly and would be contrary to design and layout guidance as set out in the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DECLG and DTTS 2013, as updated) and the National Cycle Manual.
Fingal Cycling Campaign has made a submission to An Bord Pleanála for the planned Strategic housing development (SHD) in Kellystown beside Porterstown road and Kennan bridge. There are some major and minor flaws in the designs. The major one is the slip road beside the new development. Cycling and walking facilities would have deteriorated with increased wait times on traffic islands and increased vehicle speed movements which are against best practice in Design manual for Urban roads (DMURS), National Cycle manual (NCM), Fingal County council own development plans to increase cycling and walking and finally the the National Transport Authority. It also goes against the recent public consultation on this very junction that was held by Fingal County Council in November 2020. Some minor flaws are not so detailed information on cycle lane widths and bicycle parking standards. There is a huge disconnect between what planners design and what is best practice and goes against the stated guidelines in Fingal County council’s development plan. We hope An Bord Pleanála will listen to our recommendations. For further reading on attached PDF.
