Dublin City’s Lord Mayor Caroline Conroy was presented with her official bicycle by Dublin Cycling Campaign at a special handover ceremony at the Mansion House on Friday, 2nd March 2023.

The Lord Mayor’s bicycle was handed over by the members of Dublin Cycling Campaign’s executive committee and of the Dublin City working group (sign up here). The official bicycle, a step through cruiser, provides the Mayor with a sustainable mode of transport that is efficient, healthy and emissions-free.

With traffic chaos in our streets and gridlock in all corners of Dublin these days, Lord Mayor Conroy says it best: “the bike is the best way to beat the traffic!”

This author certainly agrees. Cycling is the only mode of transport that would get you from Cabra to Connolly Station in 10mins. As it becomes increasingly difficult to drive around the city, the bike is becoming a more obvious option for those who want a reliable and quick way to get around the city.

Choosing your bike also frees up vital space on our roads for those that have to use their car. Remember, every person on a bike is one less car!

Congestion gridlocks our communities. Cycling is a low cost solution to this traffic chaos. If we are to get people to choose walking and cycling rather than their car it is vital that we have our political representatives, like Lord Mayor Conroy are leading by example.
