Support Option 5 for safe cycling on Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock

Dublin Cycling Campaign needs you to support Option 5 for the Carysfort Avenue cycle lane proposal: make your submission here. Keep your submission short and personal: it only takes 2 minutes!

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have invited people to make their say on the options for safe cycling facilities on Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock. We welcome the progression of this project as it’s one that our DLR Advocacy Group proactively requested in 2019. There’s huge potential to make cycling safer along Carysfort Avenue. There is a primary school at each end of the proposed route, a park, a university and many workplaces. The route would also provide a good connection to good cycling facilities on Frascati Road.

We are recommending that the Council proceed to the next phase with Option 5: a 2 way segregated cycle track. This is the only option that offers a fully segregated cycling track suitable for all ages and abilities in both directions on Carysfort Avenue. The western side of the road has the fewest number of entrances/side roads and thus least potential for conflicts with turning vehicles. It is also on the same side of the road as amenities such as Carysfort Park, UCD Graduate School and Carysfort N.S.

We strongly encourage you to make your own personal submission, particularly if you live in the area or would cycle there regularly. Make sure to include in your submission what this safe cycle route would mean to you. The deadline is 27th Feburary 2020 at 5pm. You can read the Dublin Cycling Campaign submission below as inspiration for your own. Contact our DLR group volunteers on dlr@dublincycling.com if you’ve any questions/ideas.
