Dublin City Council has announced that it is extending the operating hours of its pedestrian street trials after receiving extremely positive feedback from the first weekend of the trial.

The trial streets will now be open from 11am-11pm (instead of 7pm) on Saturdays and Sundays, and the August Bank Holiday Monday will also be incorporated into the trials.

Survey results published by Dublin City Council showed that footfall in the area during the trials was the highest it has been since Covid restrictions set in, with retailers also reporting 40-100% increases in turnover compared to previous weekends.

96% of respondents to Dublin City Councils survey said that pedestrianisation had improved the streets, while over 90% said the pedestrianisation should be made permanent.

Dublin Cycling Campaign is supportive of increasing the amount of people-friendly streets in Dublin and is encouraging people to visit the trial streets over the coming weekends.
