Velo-city Dublin 2019 here we come

Velo-city is an international cycling summit that has taken place annually for nearly three decades. It attracts professionals from transport engineering, urban planning, public health, smart cities, academia, and climate change.

Dublin City Council is hosting this year’s conference in the Convention Centre Dublin from June 25th to 28th.

If numbers are similar to the last European Velo-city in Arnhem-Nijmegen, it could be hoped that there will be between 1,500 to 2,000 delegates from all over the world. Being a conference aimed at professionals and public and civil servants, the registration fees are at the high end from the point of view of non-profits and advocacy groups. Do note though that it is a full four day programme where food and refreshments are provided throughout.

In appreciation of the ongoing support from the Dublin Cycling Campaign for the Velo-city Conference, Dublin City Council has made financial support available to facilitate members of the campaign to attend the Velo-city conference.

An application form was set up to receive submissions, that included the following questions:

  • Are you a paid up member
  • The title of your submission
  • Category of submission to Velo-City
  • How do you plan to promote Velo-City
  • How do you plan to help plan, promote or help with the cycle parade
  • How could the Dublin Cycling Strategy Plan 2020 be furthered with the hosting of Velo-City in Dublin
  • How might Velo-City have a positive legacy for cycling in Dublin

After being promoted on social media, and being open for over a month, the number of applications received far exceeded the budget. A jury that included the Chair and Vice-chair of the Dublin Cycling Campaign was established to review all the applications.

The Dublin Cycling Campaign is delighted to be able to announce such a strong selection to attend Velo-city Dublin 2019:

Donna Cooney, Ciarán Ferrie, Mairéad Forsythe, David Timoney, Robert Egan, Louise Williams, Vanessa Sterry, Michelle Browne, Kieran Ryan, Muireann O’Dea, Nuala Kelly & Janet Horner.

Over half of the selection have had papers accepted, and will be presenting.

We would like to thank everyone that submitted an application, and would like to thank everyone that helped with the process.

The hosting of Velo-city in Dublin is a once in a generation opportunity to focus attention on cycling in Dublin and in Ireland.
